GM Classics August News Letter [image]
August Edition
August 01, 2011

Dear GM & Nova Enthusiast,

The Nova convention for 2011 is now history, what a great show!  If you missed it, make plans for next year. Other than the cars and the people the third best thing our customers like is FREE delivery of their parts!

We have been going to the Nationals since the `80s. We only get a chance to see certain friends and customers this one time during the year which always keeps us coming back year after year. In the future, we hope to have all of our 'old' Nova Convention photos scanned and online for your viewing pleasure.

Thursday was the outing to the National Corvette Museum where the 14 select Novas have been on display for a few weeks. Friday was the last day for the special exhibit so we were able to remove the Novas from the museum and get them back to the convention parking lot.Friday night we all gathered in the parking lot for the raffle. GM Classics & Chevy 2 Only was well represented in the give away with several gift certificates, chairs, free hats for all, and PUI Interior gift certificates. Also, Mr. Jack Duer was inducted into the Nova Hall of Fame, Jack's beautiful `67 Nova L-79 was our catalog cover car, congratulations Jack!

We are back in town now and reloading for the large Street Rod National Show in Louisville, KY this weekend, August 4-7. Last year was the first year the Street Rod Nats opened up to Muscle cars. It was a huge success - all of the dealers get to display indoors with the air conditioning chilling!

Get your parts orders in now for the Street Rod Nats!

Have a great week, keep it between the ditches & please stay cool!

Also, be sure to check out photos from the 2011 Heartland Nova Reunion.

GM Classics & Chevy 2 Only had a great time at this year's Nova Nationals in Bowling Green, KY. We photographed the Novas there, visited the Corvette Museum's "Nova" special exhibit and had a good time catching up with some of our customers.

"Rusty Ragtop" For Sale!

FOR SALE: SUPER CHEVY MAGAZINE'S RUSTY RAGTOP '63 CONVERTIBLE SS.

The famous "Rusty Ragtop," one of the highest profile and complete Super Chevy Magazine project cars ever built, is looking for a new home. This original '63 Nova SS convertible was professionally crafted and was covered editorially in the pages of the magazine over a 10-year period. It is a Gold Class restoration featuring numerous NOS parts. Literally every part of this car has been rebuilt, replaced or restored, starting with a fully stripped body and correct six-cylinder engine right down to the OE-style exhaust system, professionally replicated in stainless steel! No expense was spared. Every nut and bolt has been taken apart and replaced. All trim was either replaced with NOS parts or professionally redone using factory specifications. All painted parts were powder coated to last. NOS grille, bumpers and brake drums are just a few of the new parts used to reassemble this awesome collector car. It even has an original NOS Bow-Tie locking gas cap. This restoration represents hundreds of hours of detail and assembly. I have owned this Nova since 1993 and drove it before the restoration was started. Since completion, the car has been in a climate-controlled atmosphere in my shop at my home and has only been to four shows and two local parades. It is not driven on the street. There are less than a hundred miles on the odometer. The straight six/Powerglide combination runs perfectly. Begrudgingly, I must sell the crown jewel of my collection to fund my daughter's education. The car has a very special meaning to me, and I want it to go to a good home, with an owner that appreciates its history and what it is -- a high-profile example of the only year Chevrolet produced this model. You will not be disappointed with the quality of this restoration, as it is unquestionably the finest example on the planet. Offered at $69,500, the restoration value alone is nearly twice that. Seriously interested parties may contact me directly at novaiiman@gmail.com. Please leave your name and phone number and I will return the call immediately. The Nova is located in California and I will help with shipping logistics to buyer's location, at buyer's expense. For more pictures of this Nova visit my customer gallery at chevynova.com.

Beware of Engine Killer!

Something odd we came across was a 5 gallon bucket that used to contain sodium silicate 40. What is this substance you ask? It was the "stuff" the US Government used to destroy all the nice used engines in the Cash for Clunkers program! Salvage yards were instructed to put it the good used engines to "Kill" them. Lots of used engines were lost in this program along with nice used vehicles. It was unbelievable what I got to see first hand that was scrapped! They are now blaming part of the used car markets high prices on this also.
